After a long, post-pandemic lull, I’m excited to get back into the groove of attending events. This means rediscovering my style after a few years of spending time in sweatpants and old t-shirts. My personal style can be described as tailored, polished, and playful and I want to weave this into every outfit I wear. In this newsletter, I recount three recent outfits that are a perfect fit for my style narrative sharing what worked about each. I’ll also share an outfit that was a miss and how I’d improve it to fit my personal style philosophy.

Win #1: Window-Shopping
I wore this tonal, monochromatic look recently for some window-shopping-turned-actual-shopping at Hermes. Combining pieces in the same color family is an easy outfit formula to elevate your style. Here, I combine milk chocolate and camel tones to create harmony. These are complemented by varying textures like a brushed blazer, plaid-print culottes, and sleek leather boots to bring in visual interest.
Details:
Sweater: old, Khaite, I purchased this on major markdown a few years ago from Matches Fashion. Luisaviaroma
Culottes: old. Poshmark, Poshmark, Love these
Boots: old, Senso. Similar.
I encourage you to check out this affordable and chic Australian shoe brand. Runs small so size up a whole size. What I purchased at Hermes: Cheval Blanket in Terracotta. Yes, it’s worth it!

Win #2: New Year’s Eve
I absolutely love NYE celebrations! Stepping into a fresh year with renewed goals is always exciting. I love to start the year off with a new outfit but amidst timing and delivery challenges this year, I decided to dive into my existing wardrobe to craft a look that plays with shapes and textures. The black blazer with accentuated shoulders and sheer sleeves adds volume up top, while the tucked-in waist enhances my curves. This 'V' shape can create the illusion of curves on any body type. The houndstooth skirt's A-line cut directs attention away from my hips, resulting in a perfect hourglass silhouette.
Details:
Skirt: old, L’Academie. Similar
Heels: old, Kat Maconie.
I encourage you to check out this affordable and unique British brand!Stockings: old, Gucci. Similar
Bag: old, Love Moschino. This is cute.

Win #3: Travel
With Dallas weather dipping into the teens (!), the goal with this outfit was to be warm yet comfortable for a recent weekend getaway to Big Sur, California. Opting for a tonal base, I wore a punchy yellow alpaca and wool sweater paired with my new favorite Dries Van Noten sweatpants. I topped off the outfit with my warmest jacket — the Midi puffer from Aritzia, and a fun, pink hat. The combination of complementary yellow and pink hues maintains a cohesive look despite the varying tones.
Details:
Sweater: old, Ganni. Poshmark.
Sweatpants: Dries Van Noten.
Puffer: Aritzia Super Puff in Midi. Also available in long and short.
Hat: old, Kyi Kyi. Other colors.
Socks: The warmest socks that also wick away moisture. Love wearing these out and at home.
Sneakers: New Balance 9060 in ‘Forest Green’. Other colors.

Outfit Miss: Evening Sporting Event
In a sports-loving city like Dallas, your first thought might be the Dallas Cowboys when it comes to sporting events. However, the Dallas Stars, Texas’s only ice hockey team also draws large crowds. For a recent Stars game, I wanted to support the team by wearing their colors, especially their 'Victory Green' hue. With limited green options in my closet, I chose a spring green blouse worn over a merino wool base layer for added warmth and a bold black belt to cinch my waist. This was paired with faux leather leggings and my cozy, shearling-lined ankle boots ideal for walking. Unfortunately, this look was not flattering; the blouse's awkward length drew attention to my thighs, the boots made me look shorter, and the belt highlighted my mid-section in a way I didn't like.
Details:
Denim Hat: Levi’s
Blouse: Nakd Fashion.
Merino Wool Base Layer: Smartwool. An absolute essential for cold weather!
Tights: Old. Similar
Bag: Dior Saddle Bag.
Would not buy second-hand as the prices are the same as a brand new bag.Boots: old, Sorrel.
To improve the outfit, I’d make the following changes:
Swap the belt for a cropped blazer or jacket to accentuate my waist and add structure to the look.
Swap the tights for a wide leg pant to create better balance on the top and bottom.
This would look so good with a green top! Also, it’s 100% leather for a great price.
Swap the ankle boots for knee-high boots to elongate my legs.
These have been saved to my wishlist for a while.
I hope this post sparked ideas for you to experiment with shapes, textures, and colors in your wardrobe. Remember, it's all about practice—finding what suits you best and makes you feel fantastic in your own unique way!
